Whitewater
rafting
Until Lakota the horse came and changed everything,
Mary was a whitewater rafter, navigating her own one-person, high-performance,
Russian cataraft on some of the most beautiful rivers in the country.
Many raft trips were multi-day, carry-in, carry-out wilderness
camping trips, an awesome experience in the true sense of the
word.
Gates of Ladore Trip on the
Green River
Dinosaur National Monument, Colorado
August, 1998

Hell's Half Mile rapid on the Green River,
a long, boulder-strewn section of the Green, has a huge hole you
have to deal with at the top. Mary's cataraft is at the top of
the hole, literally just feet from a straight-in approach, a likely
flipper for this sized cataraft. There was only time for one stroke,
and that was all it took to pivot around the hole.
